Tanczos Barna announces that he is working with Petre Daea to find solutions to reforestation / The ministers plan to reforest 56,000 hectares, which should be financed through the NRRP

Environment Minister Tanczos Barna says on Thursday evening that we need substantial investment in forestry to protect Romania’s forests and ensure sustainable development in this sector, and that because the funds in the National Strategic Plan are insufficient, solutions are being sought with Minister Petre Daea.

„We all know that the funds in the National Strategic Plan (NSP) on the Common Agricultural Policy for forestry are insufficient. That is why, together with the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Petre Daea, we are looking for solutions to compensate this sector through a state aid scheme”, Minister Tanczos Barna said on Thursday evening.

According to him, „we need substantial investment in forestry to protect Romania’s forests and ensure the sustainable development of this sector”.

„At the same time, we have received assurances that species protection measures will be reintroduced in the NSP and funds for forestry investments will be increased. Agriculture will be the sector most affected by climate change”, added the Environment Minister.

He said that during the meeting he stressed that the National Strategy against Desertification and Land Degradation, which is currently being drafted, must propose concrete solutions, on the basis of which funding measures in this area can be implemented.

„From the NRRP we have started the development of permanent and non-permanent accumulations to improve the situation in the watersheds and we have an afforestation plan of 56,000 ha. At the meeting with Minister Daea, we agreed that we will work together to find solutions for the development of fish farming, both in inland waters and in the maritime area,” added the Environment Minister.

Tanczos Barna said that „the environment cannot be protected without the contribution of agriculture, just as sustainable agriculture cannot be conceived without protecting nature”.

„We have a good cooperation with the Minister of Agriculture, Petre Daea, and together we are looking for solutions for the protection of the environment and the needs of the agricultural sector,” the Minister added.
