Romanian Post blames defamatory message against the company in Hungarian-language media campaign: „Don’t leave your vote up to the postal services!”

Romanian Postal Services company is accusing a campaign in the Hungarian-language media, which it claims contains a defamatory message against the company, in the context of the legislative elections in Hungary on Sunday April 3rd. Romanian Post claims that at the request of the EMNT Association in Cluj Napoca, an advertisement has been produced urging people not to use Romanian Post’s services for mail ballots, but to use alternative options.

The press release also states that Romanian Post has fallen „victim to a political dispute” in the context of the elections in Hungary and that postal workers have „impeccably” distributed over 300,000 envelopes containing ballots to the entire population of the area. The Post Office would also return these envelopes to the Hungarian Electoral Authority.

Below excerpts from the press release of the Romanian National Post Company :

„In the last few days, the Romanian National Post Company has been warned on numerous occasions by its customers about advertising spots running on Hungarian-language media channels in the Transylvanian region, as well as leaflets distributed to the population with the message „Don’t leave your vote up to the postal services!”. All this, in the context of the legislative elections that will take place on 3 April in Hungary, for which the Romanian Post is distributing envelopes containing postal votes.

Following verifications we were informed that, at the request of the EMNT Association (Erdelyi Magyar Neppart Tanacs), Cluj-Napoca, an advertisement was produced and broadcast on „Radio GaGa” urging people not to use the services of the Romanian Post, but to use alternative options.

Also, on the Facebook page of the political party Erdelyi Magyar Neppart (Transylvanian Hungarian People’s Party) there are pictures of leaflets circulating in several towns in Transylvania with the same denigrating message against the Romanian National Post Company: „Don’t leave your vote up to the postal services!”. The association of „postal services” with the Romanian Post is obvious, as there is no other postal operator carrying this type of mail in Romania.”
