POLL What Romanians think about the union with the Republic of Moldova / What do they think about Maia Sandu’s candidacy for the Presidency of Romania / What do they say about a possible Russian invasion: should Romania help Moldova militarily?

Only 33% of Romanians believe that at some point in the future Romania should unite with the Republic of Moldova, while 54% do not agree with the union and 13% cannot assess or do not answer, according to a survey conducted by Avangarde. According to the poll, if a referendum were held tomorrow on the union with the Republic of Moldova, 31% would be in favour of the union, 50% would be against and 19% are undecided or do not answer. The survey was conducted by Avangarde between 26 and 29 April on a sample of 850 subjects, using the telephone interview method, with a margin of error of 3.4%.

Most Romanians agree that the Republic of Moldova should be welcomed into NATO and the EU, the poll also shows. On the other hand, to the question „In the event of a Russian military invasion of the Republic of Moldova, do you think Romania should help the Moldovan state with troops?”, only 29% answer with Yes, while 56% disagree.

On the question „But with military equipment”, the answers differ significantly: 48% agree, 35% disagree and 17% cannot assess or do not answer.

38% of Romanians say they have a good opinion of President Maia Sandu and 2% a very good opinion. 19% say they have a bad opinion and 2% a very bad opinion. However, 36% say they have no opinion or say they do not know who Maia Sandu is.

76% do not think it would be a good option for Maia Sandu to run for President of Romania. Only 5% think it is an option, the rest do not know or do not answer.

As for Moldova’s orientation between the West and Russia, most Romanians think the country is split in half.

When asked „How do you personally perceive the Republic of Moldova?”, 57% say they are neutral, 31% rather positive and 9% rather negative.

According to Avangarde, the survey „Unionist sentiment in Romania; anticipating the future” was self-financed.
