Government to hike dividend tax from 5% to 8% from next year. Excise duties on alcohol and tobacco hikes, gambling taxes increase, VAT on sugary drinks to rise to 19%

Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă told PNL leaders at a meeting on Monday the main fiscal measures were decided after negotiations with the PSD.

According to G4Media sources, Ciucă told the Liberals that he had agreed to the following changes from 1 January 2023:

– the dividend tax will increase from 5% to 8%, including for state-owned companies
– VAT to rise to 19% on sugary drinks
– taxation of gambling companies increases to 40%
