  4. Centru de cercetare la Murighiol, fara rost !? Ba are rost, cum sa nu.

    etc.

A Fight for a Church Is Evoking Introspection

„When news spread the other day that work crews were draping black steel netting over the facade of Our Lady of Loreto Church, the people fighting to save the building from demolition found themselves stymied — and reflecting on a yearlong campaign at the brink.”

„For them, it has been a campaign for their past, embodied in an architectural treasure in a blighted neighborhood in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. The church, with its frescoed ceilings and fine Italian statuary, was built by Italian immigrants with their own hands in the early 1900s, on land farmed by the first Italian settler in America, because they did not feel welcome in German-speaking and Irish Roman Catholic parishes.”

„They lament that they cannot coax Hollywood off its addiction to organized-crime stereotypes, or draw more than a ribbon of spectators to the Columbus Day Parade in New York. And now, despite support from the New York Landmarks Conservancy and even an inquiry from the Vatican, they have not rescued Our Lady of Loreto.”

    |In a kingdom of 11m people, Islam claims the loyalty of about 800,000 souls, of whom the vast majority originate either from Morocco or Turkey. Most of the country’s 300-plus mosques are Turkish or Moroccan in flavour, and imams who serve them usually come from those countries.”

  21. 6. Demolition of churches faces French resistance

The fabric of French village life is in danger of destruction as mayors consider demolishing 19th century churches, conservationists and historians have warned.

A wave of threatened demolitions in the Anjou area has sparked fears of a wider phenomenon as mayors struggle to pay for the upkeep of the buildings, a responsibility they have held since secularisation laws passed in 1905.

  22. 7. FRANCE: 2800 Churches to be demolished
    Publication date 2016-10-13

According to a report of the French senate, 2800 churches across the country, many of them centuries old, will be demolished as restoration costs exceed the cost of demolitions over the next years.

As the number of Frenchmen in France continues to decline due to record-low birth rates, high emigration and Muslim immigration, so do the members of catholic faith, who are now at an all time low. For many cities in France, especially cities in which Christians are the minority, the lack of interest and high property value on which the buildings stand simply does not justify the cost of restoring the churches. Many mayors choose the cheaper demolitions over costly restorations. Thousands of churches are to be demolished over the next years and replaced with shopping malls, stores, apartments or parking lots.

Mosque on the other hand, flourish. The Grand Mosque of Paris recently got a modern, fully retractable Roof, as it is usually only found in football stadiums and hundreds of new Mosques are built every year for the hundreds of thousands of new Muslims born or immigrating into French society, often with taxpayer money.

  23. 7. GROZAVIE ! AMERICANII SUNT MAI CREDINCIOSI DECAT ALTI CRESTINI DIN ALTE TARI BOGATE

    JULY 31, 2018
Americans are far more religious than adults in other wealthy nations

In 1966, Time magazine famously examined whether the United States was on a path to secularization when it published its now-iconic “Is God Dead?” cover. However, the question proved premature: The U.S. remains a robustly religious country and the most devout of all the rich Western democracies.

In fact, Americans pray more often, are more likely to attend weekly religious services and ascribe higher importance to faith in their lives than adults in other wealthy, Western democracies, such as Canada, Australia and most European states, according to a recent Pew Research Center study.

For instance, more than half of American adults (55%) say they pray daily, compared with 25% in Canada, 18% in Australia and 6% in Great Britain. (The average European country stands at 22%.) Actually, when it comes to their prayer habits, Americans are more like people in many poorer, developing nations – including South Africa (52%), Bangladesh (57%) and Bolivia (56%) – than people in richer countries.

  24. 8. Is God Dead? No, but belief has declined slightly

    APRIL 7, 2016

To be sure, the share of people in the United States who say they believe in the Almighty
    has dropped a bit recently,

from 92% in 2007 (when the Center’s first Religious Landscape Study was released)
    to 89% in 2014.

And among the youngest adults surveyed (born between 1990 and 1996), the share of believers is 80%.

In recent years, there also have been small declines in other measures of religious commitment. For instance, between 2007 and 2014, the share of Americans who say they attend church or another house of worship at least once a week has dropped from 39% to 36%.

During the same period, the share of Americans who say they pray daily also has dropped 3 percentage points, from 58% to 55%.

Perhaps more strikingly, the number of people who no longer consider themselves to be part of any religious denomination or tradition has risen dramatically in recent decades.

Between 2007 and 2014, for example, the share of Americans who are religiously unaffiliated jumped from about 16% to almost 23% of the adult population.

However, it’s also important to point out that a majority of these “nones” (61%) still say they believe in God or a universal spirit.

So while the U.S. may be slightly less religious now than in the past, religion’s place in the nation’s collective consciousness has remained strong – certainly much stronger than the authors of the Time article, and most of the experts they cited, seemed to predict.

  25. 10. The number of U.S. Catholics has grown, so why are there fewer parishes?

The current number of parishes is about equal to the number that existed in 1965, even as

the number of self-identified U.S. Catholics has risen in the past half-century,

from 48.5 million to 76.7 million
    between 1965 and 2014,
    according to CARA’s data.

However, the share of U.S. Catholics who reported attending Mass at least weekly

fell by nearly half – from 47% to 24% –
    between 1974 and 2012,
according to the General Social Survey (GSS). .

There are a few other possible explanations for the apparent paradox of the growing number of Catholics and the now shrinking number of parishes.

For one, the number of priests (as well as nuns) has declined steadily over the past 50 years, potentially leading to staff shortages at parishes.

In fact, according to CARA, there are now 3,496 parishes without a resident priest, more than six times as many as there were 50 years ago.

Also, the financial ramifications of the clergy sex abuse scandal – including legal costs, settlements and declining donations – have caused economic problems for some dioceses.

Indeed, some parish mergers have been driven by the need to more efficiently use staff and financial resources.

Some of these mergers could create what CARA researchers call “million-dollar parishes,” so named because they have large budgets and serve much larger populations.

So, in some cases, there are fewer parishes in a diocese serving more people.
