The Hungarian border authorities have informed the Territorial Inspectorates of the Border Police of Oradea and Sighetu-Marmatia that, as of 02.03.2022, 15.45 (RO time), at the Romanian-Hungarian border, entry to the territory of Hungary is allowed only to citizens of third countries (including Ukrainian citizens or other persons coming from Ukraine), who meet the conditions for entry into the Schengen area.
This cancels a previous provision to allow third-country nationals coming from Ukraine to enter Hungary, in the context of the situation in that country, which accepted any kind of documents that could be used to establish identity, the Border Police announced in a press release.
Currently, at the border crossing points on the Hungarian border, there is a high waiting time, due to the fact that a very large number of cars, persons, and trucks arrive for border control when leaving Romania.
The Border Police states that border formalities at the border with Hungary are carried out jointly with the authorities of the neighboring country, meaning that the additional control arteries are carried out in agreement with and according to the staff allocated by the Hungarian Police. The Hungarian authorities have been contacted in order to arrange joint traffic flow measures.
The Romanian Border Police have increased the number of staff planned for the verification of travel documents and has taken all measures within its competence to ensure operational control.
