Serbian artist Goran Bregović, a fervent supporter of the Kremlin regime, will be in Romania this weekend, in the Danube Delta, where he has been invited to the Jurilovca Lipovka Borscht Festival.

Bregović has announced on several occasions that he publicly supports both the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014, and was banned from entering Moldova on Sunday.

Authorities in Chisinau have not yet given an official explanation for Bregović’s ban, but have announced that he is not allowed to enter Moldova until 2022.

Jurnal.md reports that he was not allowed to enter the country because he openly supports the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as well as Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

The organizers of the Gustar festival, which is taking place these days at the „Old Orhei” Cultural-Natural Reserve, announced that Goran Bregović’s band will not be present at the event, as „they were not allowed to enter the Republic of Moldova”.

„I’ve toured with my musicians all over Europe many times and never had any difficulties anywhere. I love your country very much and it is a pleasure for me to respond to the opportunity to play in Moldova, especially at such a colourful and unique festival as Gustar. I am very sorry to have been deprived of the joy and pleasure of appearing before you this time. But I can assure you that together with my team we will try to make sure that my performances in Moldova next time will not encounter any obstacles,” the artist said.

The town hall of Jurilovca, Tulcea county, is expecting more than 100,000 visitors on the first weekend of next month, when the Festival of Lipovka Borscht will take place, during which Goran Bregović will perform, Agerpres reports in a press release.

„On 2 and 3 September, the already established Festival of Lipovka Borscht will take place in Jurilovca. This year, in addition to the 50,000 portions of fish borscht offered by the City Hall, the local authorities are hosting a renowned international guest, Goran Bregović. More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the event,” the source said.

The Town Hall of the municipality of Tulcea reminds that at the end of last week, the port hosted an exhibition-competition of tuned cars, JurilovCars, as well as a road cycling race, Jurilovca Bike Fest.

„It is worth noting that the dynamics of tourism has changed significantly from previous years in terms of activities. The guests staying in the commune chose to spend only half of their time here on trips, including the beach at Gura Portiței, preferring fishing, walks in the locality, the terraces of Jurilovca, visiting the nearby fortresses of Argamum and Enisala, or staying in their homes to relax,” the press release said.
